Do you have to take a test ?
Yes, the Licensing Authority will put you through a preliminary verbal or written test on road signs and rules of the road as well as an eye test to rule out the possibility of colour blindness. This CD-ROM gives you some basic information on rules of the road and traffic signs. If you pass this test, you will be given the learner’s licence immediately.

Will you be asked to drive a vehicle?
No, Not at this stage.

What exactly does this licence entitle you to ?
It allows you to learn to drive with a regular and experienced driver of your choice. If you want to drive a motor car or a two-wheeler, this would have to be along with a friend, relative or an instructor of a driving school as long as he/she holds a valid driving licence. We would recommend the last. But, be careful to pick on an instructor from a school recognised by the Transport Department.
If you want to become a professional driver and drive commercial, passenger or goods vehicles, you will have to be trained at a driving school duly recognised by the Transport Department.
